Fun day turned into baking

After Gymnastics this morning, thought I would take the kids over to the school for the family fun day as something fun to do and since it was a walk away why not.

Got there and shit a brick the prices of the things to do I couldn't believe it, the flyer said there was free things most places the bouncy castles are free or at least a small fee and for more than ONE slide too.

Since I only took $10 with me, they only got one ride and one slide.

The first thing that was seen was the Ferris wheel so they went on that.

The kids loved this ride it only lasted 5mins for $3.50 EACH child....

So we thought we would test out the bouncy slide thing and that was a gold coin donation, and the lady said just $1 so I paid that and the kids had a go but I didnt get a photo and they wanted a photo.  The lady said I had to pay AGAIN if they wanted another turn...WOW REALLY, so I gave her my last gold coin which was $2 in hoping she would give me my dollar back nope took that and kept it :( SUCKY thats for sure.  But the kids got their photo.

It was a long slide and they wanted to go on it again and again, I was out of money, so we went to the playground to play for a bit then walked about the back of the school to see what else there was, dunk a student or teacher $3 for 3 balls, then facepainting, nails and other things all for some stupid price too.

So I started walking out of the school to the gate to head home until the kids clicked where we were going I had to convince them we will go home and have fun making cupcakes, that worked home we got set up for cupcakes and they made the mix up, with a little help pouring and measuring.

Added everything to the bowl

 Got mixing

We decided to add white choc to it, even though the mix didnt ask for it

Then it was time to fill the silly feet cupcake holders up, I filled up a couple of them to help them do it faster

While the cupcakes were baking the kids went outside to play with flour and colour water adding animals to that mix and making handprints all over the deck

Dont worry nana and grandad it washes off as its just flour and water :)

Then it was time to ice the cupcakes since they had cooled down lots while we played...lucky the cooking only took 20mins :)

Cupcakes all ready out of the oven and the table all set up for the creative kids.  Icing flavours are mango, passionfruit, orange and blueberry, these flavacols can be found at GoBakeNZ we also used their fun and love sprinkles too which are great for kids to use

The results were amazing, I only did 2 to show them how to get the icing on and how to decorate. They did 5 each a total of 12 :)  The 4 in the container we took to my mums to share :)

At mums the kids got to eat one each and they enjoyed them

Once home after I watched a program at mums they played on their own for ages which is the first as they are normally annoying each other.  Dakota went to her room to play dolls house and Lukas played outside in the pool with bubbles.

So apart from the tanties from Dakota today, its been pretty good.

Gluten Free

Yes its in our household.

Dakota has Coeliac disease as most of my readers already know.

Dakota went Gluten Free at 23mths old and now is 4.5years old.

Lukas was pretty much put onto Gluten Free just before after 2 aswell because of behaviour problems, once we put him on Gluten he changed, he was a different child and a good child.

Lukas has now been on Gluten foods now for the last 4 weeks and we have seen a huge different in him...
He has black bags under his eyes
He is waking between 2-3am every morning crying
He is withdrawn from things.
He is having meltdown moments more than normal
He will take one look at something and scream.
He is more tired than normal

This is not normal for him, he gets his bloods down on Monday and then i can put him back to Gluten Free, we are testing him for Coeliac screening, if its comes back negative he will stay on a Gluten Free diet cause we know its better for him, he is a happier child on it, he is a different child on it.

Dakota on the other hand bloods came back still high for Gluten so we are working on getting that down.  Learning that Dakota is alot more sentivitie to Gluten than we even thought.  Most that are GF can eat oats still, Dakota cant.

I get asked alot isnt it hard to have them GF in your house..well the simple answer is NO, its not hard at all to do it at home, what is hard is when people dont listen to what i need them to listen to.  This household is 95% GF the other 5% is just a few snacks for me (and Lukas at the moment).  Its hard to go out and explain to places what she cant and can have, its hard to trust that they get it right.  Try very hard to trust others but I know if something small goes wrong them i suffer with Dakota.

Even a little bit can cause alot of pain, Dakota gets sore tummy, weather you see the impact or not its still doing damage to her gut.  Things you dont see is her vomiting for up to and beyond 4 hours depending on how much she has eaten.  We are lucky to only have 30mins to an hour of vomiting.  But to be honest this shouldnt happen, with how we are, she should be fine, but every so often something will sneak in.  We are also lucky she is at an age now she actually understands and she will now ask "is that safe" or "is that gluten free".

Its one of these things she will live with for the rest of her life so what we teach her now is what we hope she will keep with her forever.
