illness

Dont you hate it when kids get sick and you have no idea what it is?

Well we have that with Dakota at the moment, yesterday as we were getting ready to head to a first birthday I noticed spots all over her back and neck so we decided not to go, not knowing what they were, over the course of the day the rash started spreading.

This morning she woke and it was worst, all down her back, tummy, neck, behind the ears and some spots bigger than they others, so it was off to the doctors

Doctor has said its roseola, so she is off preschool until the spots have spot spreading and are going away

Sadly it is now spreading down her arms:(

The sucky thing is i've had to cancel her specialist appointment for tomorrow until the 9th July now, which really sucks.  Also having to take time off my unpaid work which counts towards passing my course and time off course, as it can spread to adults but they gotta be unlucky for that to happen.

Sick Kids

That thing you dont like seeing, or watching.

Yup both my kids temps galore.

It all started on Sat afternoon with Lukas getting a temp over 38, then he was fine on Sunday, Dakota got a temp on Sunday at 38 so just watched her then BANG, she didnt want to get off the couch she was tired the kids werent fighting or annoying each other...got later on during the day, got dinner ready and both refused to eat.

This is Lukas on Sat

Then Sunday morning

Checked Dakotas temp and 39 it was coming to, so I made the call to take her to A and E and her temp 39.5 WOW, the poor girl wasnt well at all.

She really wasnt in a good shape at all...the nurses had to fan her to get the temp down and that didnt get it down enough, turns out she has Tonsillitis the poor girl.

Monday she didnt go to preschool but had all the meds.  but she wanted her homework so when i picked up Lukas i got her monday homework.

Once Lukas was home they both sat on the couch together, it was sweet, no fighting, no aguring, just quiet.

Tuesday Dakota was a bit more better, talking non stop and the kids were FIGHTING, ARGH go back to not fighting its nicer I tell you.

Dakota will be checked in the morning to see if she is ok to go to preschool, but Im not 100% sure.

Well at least this beats vomiting bugs cause I still havent had those and I prefer not to, thanks for that

Mole Removel

Well 2 hours ago i just had number 2 and 3 removed

10 years ago i had a huge one on my back taken out and man that hurt they didnt numb it right and i still felt it when the did the first cut so they had to re numb and re numb i was there for almost 2 hours with it getting numb and removed.

Today i just got one under my arm and in the groin removed and the under arm one i felt nothing was great, and the groin well half way though i felt it so more numbing had to be applied but overall both were taken out in 45mins so better than one in 2 hours.

I have had to cancel work tomorrow and Damian has to stay home as im not allowed to get off the couch unless im going toilet, shower or bed.

Next thursday stitches come out.

But MAN im sore, im going to miss Lukas's first day at daycare aswell as that is tomorrow and im not allowed to walk up there so that is out, Damian will be doing that job... O well such is life.

Hopefully next week i find out if its cancer or not

Dakota in the wars

Decided to go for a walk this morning to drop some things off at vinnies (sallies) and well it started.

We got across the road then Dakota didnt listen to me and went in front of the pram and tripped up, we got to vinnies and dropped off the clothes we dont need anymore and started to head off looking for the road the dentist is on.

Then all of a sudden Dakota running around not watching where she was going ONCE again, and down she goes again sliding across the concreate again, this time making her another knee sore and arm.  Big tears this time so a walk home, yes im mean and she had to walk home i couldnt carry her and we would of never got home if Lukas was walking.

Get home and she is still really upset about it all so we have to put a cover on two of them.
Dakota: "mum i need a big plaster"
Me: "ok"

So i pull out the first aid kit and patch her up

Before

 A very sad little girl

All patched up

Yup it prob didnt need patching like this, but anything to make a 3 year old feel better right? now she is watching cartoons as she says it hurts to walk...i guess she might learn to watch where you puts her feet, or not..

Tonight after dinner headed out to the park for an hour of so and of course Dakota went up a ladder and slipped banged her mouth on the ladder and chipped her front tooth...lucky they are baby teeth aye, just gotta watch it as its a little wiggly..hopefully a good night sleep and it will be fine in the morning

Lukas operation for ears

Well its all done:) 20th October 2011

While we were waiting and doing all the forms etc, Lukas had a play and sat with me for cuddles, he was really good when they wanted to give him pamol but didnt like the band on his arm so i put it on his ankle, then of course he wanted one on his arm so they popped another one on...

The nurses loved the way he walked around with his hands behind his back with his blonde hair just following the nurses and doctor as needed...

he was in at 9am and out at 9.10am

Nice and quick, he scoffed down 2 bananas, a pack of mario fruit men, and an iceblock before heading home at 10am

5mins into the trip home screaming started and this was no normal scream, he was arching his back and breaking out of his carseat, threw the dummy at me, threw blankey on the floor, didnt want his water or food...so after 10mins of that i had to stop the car, found a small side street and stopped got out and went for a short walk with him, then headed back to the car...to find he wouldnt go near the car, screamed and everything.  finally into the car and WELL he arched his back and started screaming again this time he took the dummy and blankey and i found some jelly beans i had in the car so gave him those kept him happy for the next 30mins to get home and he fell asleep on the last 5 mins.

He seems to be happy now and have heard new words like nana, thank you...he is eating heaps and has actually given up the dummy (which he has had in his mouth 24/7 for the last 6mths or so...he is happy and smiley.

He wanted to play so off he went

I went out for a short bit and mum popped Lukas to bed at 1pm so was asleep by the time i got back, he woke at 2pm and was very cuddly and not a happy boy at all, i gave him his pamol and it still didnt help, his temp was 38.9 so onto the phone i went as thats what i was told to do...He had to go into kidz first just to be checked over..

His temp kept going up and the ears are leaking lol which is what its meant to do.

So back at the hosp he really didnt look like himself or feel like himself didnt want to play with the toys which isnt like him AT ALL

Once we saw the doctor and he checked him over just to make sure there wasnt an underline infection somewhere...off home we went, for some food and a shower.

I hopped in the shower with him tonight so he wouldnt put his head under the water but i could clean under his ears where all the yucky stuff was...He felt a little better after the shower temp still sitting at 39 degrees but he was happy to sit and watch a bit of tv before cuddling back up to me till 6pm pamol and bed

He went to bed with no problems tonight...and fell asleep quick, he did wake about an hour mum just picked him up and popped him back to bed...

Hopefully he sleeps tonight and is back to his happy self in the morning....hopefully without the need of the dummy in his mouth 24/7

So thats number 3 op for Lukas before he is 2 years old

hand foot and mouth

Yup this is upon us here

Poor Lukas has been hit with it.

Here are some photos of him

This is as close as i will take a photo of his bum, this little bit is pretty much what his whole bum looks like:(

One of his feet, just one dot at the moment

The other foot, with 2 dots

A dot on the arm

One on his palm of his hand and there is one on the back of this hand too

His mouth, he is still eating and drinking though so that is great

You cant see this, but there are a few little ones in his mouth

So thats what he is like today, Friday was only his bum and one dot by his mouth...

I am going to take him back to the doctor on Monday to get him checked out again

Ear Infections???

Just when we thought every time Lukas got a ear problem it was an ear infection.

Why did we think it was an ear infection, well because the health professional called a doctor said so and gave him meds for it..well it turns out the meds never worked and he got another one 2 weeks later would be because it WASNT a ear infection at all but glue ear, and medications cant fix that.

Now i spoke to the doctor for a while saying could it be something else, can i get a speicalist and always got told he hasnt had enough ear infections for that kinda treatment yet.

Now history on this, Lukas started getting "ear infections" winter 2010 so he was about 6-7mths old and kept getting them, one after the other after the other...then summer would come around and he was fine, winter this year 2011 and it starts all over again..

To the point this child has had about 15-20 "ear infections" so when i changed doctor and ended up there again for another "ear infection" i asked the new doctor about a specialist appointment and in 3 weeks i got a call from the hospital for an appointment look at that getting somewhere...Just happened i got the hosp phone call last friday when i was at the new doctors again (yup changed doctors again as we have moved area), now while at the new doctor i get told he has another ear infection so more meds for him.

On Monday i get to the hosp for our appointment and told them he has JUST got another ear infection the doctor had a look and said umm thats not an ear infection thats glue ear, i dont think he has had an ear infection there is no ear infection scaring or anything.

Now this would explain why meds NEVER worked and he is ALWAYS getting sore ears, she said  it is quite possible he has had glue ear for almost 2 years and it just clears up in summer, and comes back in winter but she cant be 100% about that.

So now Lukas has been put on the list for urgent grommits which should be in the next 5 weeks.

Grommits are these tiny little white plastic circles that will be put into his ear to help with the draining and getting him feeling better, these will fall out in their own time, between 2-5 years.

Im glad its getting done now so now waiting for the op date

So if your told over and over again your child has an ear infection please get it seen too as it might not be an ear infection it could very well be glue ear.

Lukas doesnt hear well, he yells, he is loud, he is very rough, gets angry quickly which i thought was all a boy thing and well being a toddler turns out most of it will be cause he cant hear very well.

So waiting and seeing and looking for results now

And for today

check, check and check again

Well since we have moved i have wanted to get the kids into Montessori finally Dakota gets toilet trained BUT i cant get her in a Montessori over in Manukau so off to First Steps Everglade Preschool i went and enrolled both kids today.

Dakota will be in the 2 years and up centre and will be going Monday's and Tuesdays for 8 hours a day 8-4pm, i didnt want a place that had long hours but over this way i have no choice.  She will like it there and they have already started working out the Monday and Tuesday meals to go around her so she can eat too as they get fed, the head teacher sat with me for a good hour today working out what things they can move around and pop her food in, like flour, spag etc...was great actually to see that

Was great for the teacher to ask to explain everything to them, what they need to do with Dakota and what procedures need to happen IF she happens to get Gluten in her body, so we sat down and wrote out a plan...

Then over the road we went to enroll Lukas into the First Steps Everglade preschool for babies, he loved it there and didnt want to come home.

So Lukas is now enrolled too for Mondays and Thursdays he even had lunch there today and the teachers love him, he didnt want to leave the preschool.

Then it was a hosp appointment for lukas at 2 over on the north shore for his ears so dropped Dakota off at my nanas and off we went.  Lukas was well behaved sat and waited for his turn and then let the lady check his ears out.

Well after all the "ear infections" we have had turns out they dont believe he had any ear infections its glue ear.  So for 2 years Lukas has had glue ear and the poor boy has been suffering because of it.

NOW he has been put though as urgent and getting an operation done for grommets in the next 5 weeks, the poor boy just been though a big operation recently needs to have another done.

So watch this space for operation details:)

Im still looking for my camera lol

Fish Fountain

Well today was a busy day, we went to bells and whistles and then to stove oven afterwards for lunch on the way back to the car to head to the hosp Dakota wanted to sit with the fountain fish, but we didnt have time i told her we would another time.

Went to middlemore hosp for Lukas to have his ultrasound scan on his hips which showed there is something there just now wondering why its not filling with bone like it should so could be some blood tests coming up for him.

I had to go to the navy base to drop off my laptop charger so off i went though the gates to drop off the charger and Damian came running up, he has finished work and started to walk saw the car and i didnt see him lol.

Dropped off the charger, and we headed to the post office, well we drove pass the fish fountain didnt we, and Dakota says "now mummy, please fish" so while i went into the post office with Lukas, Damian took Dakota over to the fountain, then Lukas and I joined them.

Here is the fountain she is soooo interested in

Kids sitting by the fountain looking at the water

And at the bottom of the water are tiles with dolphins on them

We then decided to take the kids to the park as they had been very well behaved and Dakota has used the toilet 7 times at this stage and was still in the same knickers i put her in this morning.

So Damian and Dakota walked over to the park and Lukas and i drove to meet them there.

We got there first of course lol, and Lukas wanted to go in the swing first off

Not the best photo as he was swinging lol.

Then off to the big metal slide

He was climbing the steps at one point and slipped down hitting his mouth and scrapping his leg, i gave him a cuddle and he just pointed to the slide so off he went up the stairs and down the slide over and over again, always going on his tummy head first lol.

Dakota finally joined us and decided to have a go at the slide too.

Dakota likes to swing at the top bar before going down the slide then lets go and off she slides.

Time to head home and off we started walking to the car, Dakota ran over to this big tree and sat down Lukas then followed so i took a photo lol

Both saying "cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeese"

Then they got over that and headed to the car

Was a pretty good day really
