Well yesterday was the day for starship for Dakota
She started her morning with 3 pancakes for breakfast at 7.15am
We kept her busy while at home by playing games when Lukas needed breakfast Dakota had a shower with her mum and then after that, she went down the road with dad to get some things by the time they got back it was time to pack the bag and ready to go, we left the house 10.30am to head off. Dakota fell asleep in the car so we stopped to get a burger from macdonalds, because Dakota couldnt eat we made sure she was asleep before we ordered and ate it before she woke.
We got to starship early about 11.30am so let Dakota have a play on the playground
After having a play at the playground, it was time to go to the area where Dakota needed to be, she found the toys and off she went to play while i filled in the forms and Damian played with the kids, once everthing was done it was a small wait until we saw the person who puts them to sleep (cant spell it lol). He spoke to us then we got seen by the surgon. The nurse then came and saw us to weigh Dakota and ask more questions, she also asked us to put Dakota in a little nighty as we didnt take pj's with us (we werent told to).
Here is Dakota all dressed in her nighty it was too big for her she had to have binky and dummy with her as about now she started to relise something was happening and she wasnt too impressed so the dummy and binky helped her stay happy
After getting dressed it wasnt long until we got called into the pre op area, so off we went walking down the hall and getting showen which room we would be in afterwards, where the toilets were, the recovery room and then we were at the pre op area, where we got asked more questions by another nurse. In the pre op area everyone would say how cute Dakota was walking round in her little nighty, nappy and socks. She played while we waited and i got dressed in the blue gear ready to go in the room with her.
About 20mins later we were called to go into the room where dakota was going to have the biopsy done, she didnt want to leave the tea set so took it with her. Dakota was very brave and sat on the bed happy and telling the nurses everything, they gave her the face mask to play with and showed her where it went and then it was all hooked up and off to sleep she went, was very fast.
I got taken out of the room and Damian, Lukas and i went back to the main waiting area to wait, we fed Lukas and got him to sleep while talking and waiting with others. 20mins later we were told we could head off to the recovery area as Dakota was out now.
We walked into the room to a find a very sleepy little girl all curled up in bed sleeping.
She woke for her dummy and binky and went back to sleep. When she actually woke 10mins later she started crying and getting very upset that she has a iv in her hand, she was ripping at it and screaming. The nurse came over and Dakota held out her hand screaming, i told the nurse thats a sign for she doesnt want it, when the nurse tried telling Dakota it needed to stay in she yelled more and got more and more upset, the nurse ended up taking it out. Because Dakota was so upset it kept bleeding more than it should of, finally they managed to get it to stop bleeding enough to get a plaster over top. This made Dakota a little better, but still was crying, the idea of a ice block made her feel alot better.
We got back to the room where we sat on a chair and Dakota was given an ice-block
This must of been a very yummy ice-block as it didnt last long at all. Nice and cold and made her feel heaps better.
After her ice block she wanted to get up and walk but still being a little sleepy from gas she kept falling over, she has cuddles with me for a while then Damian found a trolly and Dakota went for a ride with Lukas
She went for a ride around the waiting room for a while and the nurse came and spoke to me to say we could go home if we like, gave us the results. The results has pretty much confirmed that Dakota has Coeliac Disease so no gluten or wheat for her. We had gluten free cookies with us which Dakota ate.
On the way back to the room Dakota was given a book and teddy to take home with her. We got her dressed and ready to go home.
We left about 4pm and got home around 4.45pm picking up her very last gluten meal, hamburger happy meal.
The next day being today, Dakota has gluten free all day, coco pops to start her day, she wasnt a fan of her lunch but ate dinner pasta with cheese sauce and mince. Dakota had a really good day finally, no tanties, no answering back, no screaming and yelling. She had an afternoon sleep from 1.30-4pm and then went to bed at 7.30pm with out a fight and went to sleep. She is taking iron every morning before breakfast. This is Dakota the day after the biopsy
Hopefully this is a new start for a new beginning and a make happier little girl.
