Magic Milk

Well if you are on facebook then this page My-Busy-Little-Bee this has alot of great ideas on what to do with kiddies in the holidays or weekends.

Well i decided to try the magic milk one.

You need milk, food colouring, cotton buds, dish washing liquid, and a shallow bowl or lid

Pour the milk into your bowl or lid, just enough to cover the bottom
Then put some drops of food colouring into the milk.

Get your cotton bud and put some dish washing liquid on it (i poured some dish liquid into another lid so it was easy for Dakota to do)

Pick up the cotton bud and put it into the milk, and watch the colours move into each other

When you introduce detergent to the milk, several things happen at once. The detergent lowers the surface tension of the liquid so that the food coloring is free to flow throughout the milk. The detergent reacts with the protein in the milk, altering the shape of those molecules and setting them in motion. The reaction between the detergent and the fat forms micelles, which is how detergent helps to lift grease off of dirty dishes. As the micelles form, the pigments in the food coloring get pushed around. Eventually equilibrium is reached, but the swirling of the colors continues for quite a while before stopping
This is fun and Dakota had fun doing it, if you push the cotton bud to the bottom of the milk and lift it up you get bubbles.
